Science

We have created a proof of concept using today's technology. It is not as effective as it could be and in years to come we hope to see the technology grow.

Another company, Pavegen, has created similar technology using much heavier duty materials. MyStep is using piezodiscs that are averaging .04 watts per compression but is also using highly sustainable mycelium as the bases for the tiles.

Suitability

Mycelium is a durable and environmentally conscious material. It can be shaped and molded to grow in a desired manner allowing it to fit into various situations. The biggest issue would be water-proofing the material but this could be done with any kind of sealant.

Compatibility

MyStep tiles could be placed over existing systems as a mat, or it could replace existing systems. Using a sealant on the material could allow it to be used in a wider variety of places.
